Cap:Â 50+ mm in diameter, convex to broadly convex to plane at maturity. Reddish cinnamon brown maturing to golden brown to light yellow. Surface dry with pronounced and persistent remnants of universal veil on cap (spots). Flesh white soon bruising bluish green.
Stem:Â 125+ mm in length, yellowish. Flesh bruising bluish green where injured. Persistent membranous annulus (ring) from partial veil that becomes dusted with purple brown spores at maturity.
Gills:Â Attachment adnate to adnexed. Grayish coloration in young fruit bodies becoming nearly black in maturity.
Spores:Â Dark purplish brown, subellipsoid on 4-spored basidia

Psychotria cv. – Superior Cultivars 10g
Psychotria viridis and Psychotria carthagenensis are used in the traditional psychoactive medicine Ayahuasca; a brew of Banisteriopsis caapi (occasionally alone but most often with Psychotria viridis or other DMT containing plants such as Diplopterys cabrerana) as the base and other plants are sometimes added, depending on the problems and conditions of the patient that need to be examined.
Psychotria viridis contains dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a psychoactive substance found across the plant kingdom in many family, genera and thousands of species (large numbers of Australian Acacia species and other natives contain DMT), often only as trace amounts.
For many years I have been breeding new cultivars of Psychotria, after first creating an interspecific hybrid between Psychotria viridis and Psychotria carthagenensis (cv. Nexus). These hybrids have now been legally analysed in a research project, funded by Herbalistics, leading to the discovery of a number of higher alkaloid cultivars. We are now in the process of propagating 20 of these hybrids for sale and will replace the old hybrid pages with this simple single page.
Psychotria cv. ‘DW02’ 10g
Psychotria cv. DW02Â is an interspecific hybrid of Psychotria carthagenensis and Psychotria viridis bred by Darren at Herbalistics. Psychotria carthagenensis is the pistillate parent and Psychotria viridis is the staminate parent. DW02 is fast growing and has a wonderful habit and deeply veined leaves.

Care and Cultivation of Psychotria cv ‘DW02’
DW02 achieves a good growth rate when compared to Nexus, Psychotria viridis and is as fast or faster than Psychotria carthagenensis. Psychotria cv. DW02 prefers a part shade, moist, well-drained position in the garden and a rich loam soil with adequate fertiliser. DW02 has performed well in our subtropical climatic extremes experienced here in SE QLD, ranging from low to high humidity, temperatures from 0-43°C over the year. It will have minimal frost tolerance and is about as drought tolerant as the parents, please share your cultivation experiences with us by posting a review.
